Dog Handler, Trainer, and Coach

  • Has worked in skill development for autistic teens with the use of dogs

  • Owns multiple dogs of her own
  • Provides training for groups, semi-private and private instruction at all levels
  • President of Capital Comets Agility Club, in Victoria, BC
  • Volunteers for rescue organizations and local animal shelters
  • Is a member of the Agility Association of Canada and the BC Stock Dog Association
  • Instructor of agility and obedience for over 5 years

Competitive highlights
  • Julie currently competes in agility trials all over Vancouver Island
  • Has competed at the AAC Regional Competitions for the past 3 years
  • Qualified each of the past 3 years for National Championships and competed in the Nationals
  • Has placed in the top 20 each year at Regionals
  • Has placed 4th two times in individual jumpers classes at Regionals
  • Julie's dog Drift is an Agility Trial Champion of Canada (ATChC), the highest level in agility in Canada
  • Julie's other two competing dogs are well on their way to their Championships at age 3 and 2

Stockdog Work

New to the trial world of herding, Julie has been training for 4.5 years. In 2008 she entered her first field trial with her 2 yr old dog Tee, winning the Metchosin Sheep Dog trial in the Novice-Novice class overall. Later that summer Julie and Tee entered their second trial in the Fraser Valley Sheep Dog Trial and again won the Novice-Novice overall title. At the same trial, Julie picked up 4th place with her dog Drift.



Education



Obedience
  • Holds a "Dog Trainers Certificate of Completion" from a college accredited program
  • Attends seminars with Brenda Aloff and Dr Stanley Coren
  • Has trained to date over 400 pet family dogs and has worked with many reactive and fear based aggressive dogs

Agility
  • Has taken clinics and lessons on an ongoing basis with Kim Collins, Theresa Rector, Susan Garrett, and Kathy Keats

Herding
  • Attends several clinics, lessons, and camps annually with Martha McHardy, Bill Berhow, Lee Lumb, Peter Gonnet, and Norm Close
