Testimonials
I have a two year old Standard Poodle who has been in training with Julie since he was a puppy. Julie taught him his foundation work and we are now working on advanced skills. Julie has a wonderful understanding of dogs and this, with her knowledge of agility, produce a winning combination. We have started competing and Julie has always been by our side encouraging us and sharing her knowledge. Agility classes are a blast for both of us!
Julie's love of dogs and passion for teaching are the right ingredients to make agility training a great time for me and my dogs. Julie is a kind and patient trainer who really focuses on our successes - I look forward to our lessons each week and, we are learning lots!
We have known Julie Carter for close to 4 years and she has been an inspiration to us, sharing her knowledge, skills, and passion for working with dogs and people. Julie has shown her outstanding abilities working with us to train our own dog, Mac, but has also gone out of her way to help children and young adults with autism learn to work with dogs. When Mac arrived as a puppy, our vision was to have Mac work with children with disabilities. Julie met with us to help ensure we were both on the right track and subsequently worked with us through private lessons, and group sessions. Julie went out of her way to work with Mac in the OT clinic to ensure he had the skills required. Julie has an innate ability to connect with kids, adults and dogs, which serves as the foundation for teaching new skills. She has gone above and beyond to help organize and run a group for children with autism. Julie was able to help these children learn about working with dogs which also enhanced their own skills to interact with others. This group was a huge success and would not have happened without her exceptional commitment. Mac absolutely loves Julie and we can't thank her enough for all she has done for us.
I have been a student of Julie's, along with my golden retriever Soleil, for over two years now. My background is in competitive obedience and I have taught advanced obedience classes at the Greater Victoria Dog Obedience Training Club for nearly 30 years. As obedience friends began taking up the new sport of agility I remained firm that I would NEVER do agility. Soleil was a puppy who needed some confidence building and since Julie's ring was just down the road I decided that baby agility could possibly help my little girl. So we started private lessons. I told Julie however that I would NEVER entertain serious agility training and would certainly NEVER trial in agility. Well, two plus years later I am still doing agility and have successfully competed in several agility trials.
Julie deserves all the credit for what Soleil and I have achieved. Julie is truly a "student" of the sport of agility. She knows exactly what she is doing and, more importantly, she knows why. Julie maintains an open mind and is so respectful of someone like me who comes from a different dog sport. When we first started our agility training it was very important for me to know that the puppy work would be safe. No-one is more concerned about safety than Julie. My puppy was taught everything in a completely safe manner and she had fun, fun, fun in her learning, as did I. Two years later we are still having fun and the highlight of Soleil's week is going to agility training on Friday mornings. Julie really cares about her students and their dogs. When it comes to going to a trial, Julie is there with you every step of the way from working out a plan of how to run the course, to walking the course with you, and to really being thrilled for your success and proud of you and your dog. I have never hesitated to recommend Julie to anyone with a young dog who is thinking about agility training. She is the best.
Two years ago I knew nothing about agility or sheep herding, but I did have a young border collie who was in need of a job to do. Fortunately I was referred to Julie. Julie introduced me to both spheres of training. She guided me through the introduction to both these fascinating activities, helped me choose the one most suited to my dog, and has taught both of us how to better understand each other. Julie has a passion for clear communication between dog and handler and excels in the area of breaking down complex skills into their smallest components and then slowly putting the pieces of the puzzle together. In this way my unassertive border collie has become a competitive agility dog, attaining her starters agility dog of Canada title in her first 3 trials. I drive almost an hour each way to my weekly lesson, time well spent; I would recommend Julie to anyone wanting to improve their relationship with their dog.
